Find the right guide
Identify your article number, board family and control type.

Start with the article number
Check the article number on the packaging and the markings on the board. Similar names do not mean identical connections or settings. Identify the light colour, compartment layout and control type. For an older board, photographs of both sides help.
| Family | Articles | Control |

| LX-U Poti | 31017 yellow · 31018 white · 31019 warm white | Potentiometer |
| LX-M | 32019 / 32119 / 32219 | Potentiometers, 10 / 11 / 12 compartments |
| LX-R | 33019 / 33119 / 33219 | Potentiometers, 10 / 11 / 12 compartments |

Digital track power is not decoder control
The potentiometer boards can operate on a digital railway as described in their manuals. Brightness is still adjusted mechanically; using digital track power does not add a DCC address or programmable CVs. The LX-U DCC has a decoder address, function keys and the CV settings described in its reference.
Check the fit before choosing
For LX-M and LX-R, match the coach family, number of compartments and interior layout. Measure the clear space under the roof, allowing for wires and a capacitor. Universal strips may only be shortened at the marked cut points. Use the product finder to narrow the choice, then compare dimensions.
Test before modifying
Test the uncut board before cutting or soldering. Check the lighting and, for a DCC board, decoder control as well. Record existing settings before changing them. These guides supplement the original manual; its connection drawing must match your actual board.
